Continental has been honoured with the "Tire Manufacturer of the Year" award at the Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence 2025. The premium tyre manufacturer also received the accolade for "Environmental Achievement of the Year – Manufacturing" for its pioneering work at the Lousado, Portugal, plant, making it the only tyre company to secure two major awards at the event.

The awards ceremony took place on 4 March at the Tire Technology Expo in Hanover, Germany, which is regarded as one of the top events in the industry. The double win highlights Continental's commitment to sustainability and innovation in a highly competitive market.

Celebrating Continental’s Industry-Leading Achievements

Edwin Goudswaard, Head of Research and Development at Continental Tires, expressed his pride in the company's success:

"We are especially proud to be the only manufacturer to be honored twice at the Tire Technology Awards in an extremely competitive field. Both awards highlight our strong commitment to sustainable tire development and manufacturing. In such a highly competitive market, this success demonstrates our innovative prowess and our ability to actively shape the future of the industry."

This is the fourth time Continental has earned the title of "Tire Manufacturer of the Year," having previously received the honour in 2022. The company beat competitors from the USA, Italy, and France to secure the top spot.

Environmental Leadership at Lousado Plant

Continental's Lousado plant was recognised for its CO2-neutral manufacturing processes, a significant step in the company's goal to achieve full carbon neutrality across all its plants by 2040. The facility employs a fully electric steam boiler powered by in-house solar energy and renewable grid electricity, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

This innovation aligns with Continental's broader sustainability initiatives, including the use of recycled PET bottles in tyre production and the adoption of state-of-the-art energy efficiency standards at its global facilities. The company's Lousado, Puchóv (Slovakia), and Hefei (China) plants have also received ISCC-PLUS sustainability certification.

Continental’s Ongoing Commitment to Sustainability

This latest award adds to Continental’s growing list of accolades for environmental stewardship. In 2024, the company won the "Environmental Achievement of the Year – Tire Design" for its UltraContact NXT tyre, demonstrating its consistent performance in promoting green innovations within the tyre industry.

Thierry Wipff, Head of Manufacturing Technology Engineering Tires at Continental Tires, receives the "Environmental Achievement of the Year" award for tire production at the Lousado plant in Portugal.

Setting the Standard for a Sustainable Future

The Tire Technology International Awards, held annually since 2008, celebrate outstanding advancements in tyre technology and sustainability across 13 categories. Continental's recognition in both key categories reaffirms its leadership in driving the tyre industry towards a more sustainable and innovative future.
