The Wolfsburg United Cup, organised annually by VfL Wolfsburg, made its return to the Shanghai Jing'an Sports Centre in mid-May for its third edition.
This year's event saw an impressive turnout, with 19 teams participating, including a team from Linglong Tire, comprising employees from China, Thailand, and Europe. Despite a valiant effort, the Linglong Tire team was narrowly defeated in the final by the FAW-Volkswagen team.
This small-field tournament, hosted by the VfL Wolfsburg office in Shanghai, is a notable event for partners based in China, such as Linglong Tire and several teams from Volkswagen Group China. The competition attracted hundreds of spectators, including Wang Feng, CEO of Linglong Tire, who was present to support his team.
The Wolfsburg United initiative is a collaborative project involving Volkswagen AG, terre des hommes, and VfL Wolfsburg. Launched at the start of the 2012/2013 football season, this globally unique project aims to foster football concepts and promote sporting and cultural exchanges between China and Germany. Over the years, the project has significantly contributed to the development of football in both countries.
