Accuride Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of wheel components, has introduced a redesigned product portfolio at the IAA Transportation show, unveiling a host of new innovations aimed at meeting the evolving demands of the commercial vehicle industry. The new range includes forged aluminium wheels, redesigned steel wheels, and wheel solutions for electrified vehicles. These launches underscore Accuride’s commitment to enhancing wheel design, durability, and sustainability.
Forged Aluminium Wheels
Accuride launched a newly designed range of forged aluminium wheels, showcasing enhanced features for modern fleet demands. These wheels are compatible with TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), a key feature for maintaining optimal tyre pressure. The design prioritises durability, ensuring these wheels stand up to the rigours of heavy-duty transport.
Redesigned Steel Wheel
Accuride also introduced a redesigned 22.5 x 11.75 steel wheel, one of their most popular models for trucks and trailers. This wheel uses HSLA (High Strength, Low Alloy) steel, designed to set a new industry benchmark for weight, targeting around 36 kg. The focus on reducing weight without compromising strength positions this product as a potential game-changer for fleet operators aiming to improve fuel efficiency.
Wheel Solutions for Electrified Vehicles
In response to the rising demand for electric commercial vehicles, Accuride debuted new wheel solutions specifically tailored for electrified drivetrains. These wheels are designed to accommodate the higher nominal loads associated with electric vehicles while maintaining a low overall product weight. This ensures the wheels meet the unique demands of future vehicle designs, where efficiency and load-bearing capacity are critical.
Accuride's forged aluminium wheels’ compatibility with TPMS is not a unique feature, as most modern wheels offer this functionality. TPMS sensors are generally interchangeable between steel and aluminium wheels. However, Accuride’s attention to maintaining this standard in their new designs highlights the company's focus on safety and fleet management efficiency.
Additionally, while there was mention of "flow-formed steel wheels" in some reports, this was incorrect. Accuride's new steel wheel relies on HSLA steel, and no flow-forming process is involved in the production.
Speaking at the IAA show, Alexander John, President of Accuride Wheels Europe & Asia, noted the significance of these launches for the industry. "These new products represent various world premieres for the commercial vehicle market, underlining the technical leadership position of Accuride," he said. The new wheel designs are part of Accuride’s efforts to shape the future of the industry through cutting-edge innovation, addressing key areas like sustainability, durability, and cost-efficiency.
Accuride’s new wheel portfolio reinforces their leadership in the commercial vehicle sector. By focusing on the needs of both traditional and electric vehicles, Accuride is positioning itself at the forefront of the industry's next generation of wheel solutions. These innovations are likely to appeal to fleet operators and manufacturers looking to improve vehicle performance, reduce fuel costs, and embrace sustainability.
